Along with Standard Practice, we are running three workshops to create three items of prototype play equipment and explore designs to inspire the final playground at Mayfield Park, working in collaboration with the children of Greater Manchester and putting them at the heart of the project.
At the end of each session all work will be photographed, recorded and stored by the project team.
9th March: 12.30 - 15.30
For our first workshop, we'll be looking at the materials we should be using in the final Mayfield playground. We'll be using materials including foam, cardboard, dowelling, wire, clay and plasticine to create small scale models of children's dream play equipment and furniture.
23rd March: 12.30 - 15.30
For our second workshop. we'll be exploring aesthetics; colours and patterns! We'll be using techniques such as brass rubbings, screen printing, tie dying, clay pressing, and drawing with pencils and chalk to explore pattern and colour which will inspire our final prototype play equipment.
30th March: 12.30 - 15.30
Our third and final open workshop will be considering the role of vegetation and planting in the design of public spaces and how these can be used to enhance the play experience.
Our little makers will be asked to experiment with planting and take part in activities including making bug hotels and willow weaving to influence the final piece of the Playfield puzzle!
